Black In Astro Travel Grant Program
The Black In Astro Travel Grant program helps BIA members in the space sciences attend the conferences, workshops, and summer and winter schools that shape a scientific career. These are the places where students present their research, meet collaborators and mentors, and become part of the wider astronomy community. Since 2023, Black In Astro have provided grants for early-career researchers to attend space-related conferences around the world.

I am reaching out to express my gratitude for the Black In Astro travel grant I received to attend the National Society of Black and Hispanic Physicists (NSBP/NSHP) back in November 2024. Not only did the conference expose me to the various industry job opportunities available, I was able to connect with different physics and astronomy graduate programs, I was provided with graduate school application fee waivers to programs I would not have been able to apply to otherwise, and I connected with researchers who share similar research interests as me, with whom I have now collaborated with on a joint project. For these reasons, I found my time at NSBP/NSHP to be invaluable and I can't thank Black In Astro enough for their generosity
This grant was essential in getting me to the 10th international conference on Mars, and that conference in turn led me to meet members of Mars science teams and several new collaborators who I've continued to work with to this day
